The Athens Concert House of Music is one of the most prominent cultural projects in modern Greek construction history. Phase I (completed 1992) was a demanding high-standards project with two large concert halls for music and opera, especially acoustics, sound insulation, and noise protection. Phase II added a 1,400 seats Opera Hall, a 400 seats Theater, reception and support spaces, a conference center, exhibition spaces, a music library, and 750 parking places. MMT carried out the noise control design of the HVAC system and the stage installations. A complete HVAC system simulation tested the sound attenuation needed to control the source and regenerated noise. Several measures, including mufflers, absorbers, elastic bearings, and floating floors, were taken to secure the extremely low noise level requirements.
