The Lazaristes Monastery Cultural Center & Theater is a distinguished project of the Thessaloniki-European Cultural Capital 1997. The Monastery building (1886) was renovated and extended with a new building to house a 700 seats Drama School Theater and a Drama School Small Theater. Nick Thompson – RHWL Architects, London, and the consultants Flemming and Barron, supported the theater design. The main theater hall was redesigned to create perfect conditions for prose performances. Diffuse walls and ceilings were designed. The absorption was kept at a minimum, and the volume controlled the reverberation. The protection of the hall from noise was of prime importance. The Convention buildings house the State Museum of Modern Art, and the court provides outdoor shows and concerts space for 1,000 spectators.
